With Jane Chu, the former chair of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), 2015

Hello! I’m Jane, an award-winning graphic designer and artist who has a passion for environmental graphics, printed matter, animation, branding and storytelling. I have worked in collaboration with Artists, Architects, Cultural Institutions, Curators, Directors, Non-Profits, and Scientists.

I currently work as an independent designer based in Los Angeles, California where I work with a variety of clients that range from non-profit organizations to Arts and Cultural institutions, the fashion industry, and cultural events. I worked as the Senior Graphic Designer and Marketing Coordinator for Frederick Fisher & Partners, a boutique architecture firm with offices in LA and NYC, a firm that specializes in designing spaces for cultural and educational institutions, as well as private residences.

Prior to relocating to Southern California, I worked at the Anchorage Museum where I pushed the museum’s design standard forward and under my design direction, the museum’s exhibitions and graphics won awards, brought in new audiences, and helped the museum undertake more ambitious design challenges. In addition to leading the museum’s team of designers, I conceptualized and designed award-winning exhibitions and environmental graphics, catalogs, books and other design collateral relating to visitor experience, exhibitions, programs, and museum-related initiatives.

Together with the museum’s Executive Leadership, I helped develop a Design Department that housed three full-time staff, co-conceptualized the first annual Anchorage Design Week (held in September of 2016), and participated in the development of the Anchorage Museum’s 2015-19 Strategic Plan where I was integral in cementing design as one of the cornerstones of the museum.

Before moving to Anchorage in 2012, I worked as the in-house graphic designer for Anythink Libraries where I designed the library’s marketing materials, quarterly newsletters, participated with development of district-wide campaigns, worked closely with vendors to produce Anythink’s printed materials, and collaborated with other departments and branches to support their communications needs.

I started my post college design career at the corporate branding agency, Monigle Associates, where I worked within a team of designers to create logos, develop brand identities and systems, and design campaigns for national and international corporate clients such as GE, Lancaster General Health, Montefiore Medical Center, CenturyLink, and Aga Khan University. During my time at Monigle Associates, I was part of a three-person design team selected by Aga Khan University to travel to Kenya, Tanzania and Pakistan to spearhead their rebranding effort.

I earned my BFA in Communication Design from Metropolitan State University of Denver with an emphasis in Swiss Design, branding and typography, and I earned my BA in Studio Art from Sweet Briar College in Virginia with an emphasis in painting. I am currently taking classes through the School of Motion where I am learning motion design and animation. I have been a Visiting Designer at Metropolitan State University of Denver and have reviewed design students’ portfolios in Denver and Los Angeles. I am a two-time recipient of the Forsyth Fellowship at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) and have exhibited in Virginia, Colorado and Alaska. Collectors of my artwork include Dave Matthews and his wife, Ashley Harper.
